Wednesday is a Kempton night. Six of our thirteen picks come off the all-weather card there, and the one we keep coming back to does not even have a price up yet. That tells you something about how the market sees the 7.40, and we want to be in before it firms up.
Angel Gabriel is the bet of the night. He was progressive in all three starts at two, made most of the running to win at Lingfield on this surface, and he starts his handicap career from a mark that looks well within reach. He was gelded over the winter too, and that operation often sharpens this type up another notch. An hour later Karakula sets the standard in the 8.40. He produced a career best last time when denied a short head at Wolverhampton after a scrappy passage, the step up in trip is the right move now, and Ferguson does well at this track. Club Class in the 8.10 is the shortest price we take all day and rounds out a busy evening that also includes Karthon, Criminal and Moonshine.
Before all that, Yarmouth in the afternoon. Skellig Isle in the 3.48 has been running to a higher level than her finishing positions show, with traffic and strong races hiding the effort. De Sousa goes well at the track and she meets easier company here than when she won at Chelmsford. Carron follows in the 4.50.
Over in Ireland, Limerick gives us two. Verhoyen in the 7.20 is down to a mark an eight-time winner can exploit, clocked one of his better recent runs last time, and W J Lee from stall 3 is the right combination of rider and draw. Exceeding in the 7.50 got no run at a key stage at Listowel having arrived there in career-best form, and seven furlongs is the trip his record says he wants. Hamilton fills out the rest of the slate, Summerstorms Dream in the 6.30 the pick of our three there, with South Parade and Condotti at bigger prices later on.
Yesterday gave us a winner in Lumenbourg at 3.25, and the places kept the card honest too, with Distant Rumble, Royal Poetry at 8.5 and Polygram all hitting the frame. A solid Tuesday, and with thirteen running today there are plenty of ways for Wednesday to top it.
